#VirtualOperaOmaha Week 4 Round-Up
We’ve already completed four weeks of #VirtualOperaOmaha! This week, we heard from a member of the cast of Madama Butterfly last fall, learnt more about the Poetry & Music Project in Opera in Conversation, and Michael Bolton of Opera Philadelphia presented a Virtual Prelude Talk in advance of The Met Opera’s stream of Madama Butterfly on Friday evening.
Check-In with Tenor Robin Yujoong Kim
Tenor Robin Yujoong Kim played the sleazy salesman Goro in Jun Kaneko’s Madama Butterfly last fall. He has been spending this past month learning some new roles, including Tamino (The Magic Flute), Nemorino (The Elixir of Love), and Alfredo (La traviata). He’s also been watching the Met Opera’s free nightly streams!

Virtual Opera in Conversation: Poetry & Music Project
On Tuesday evening, we held a virtual Opera in Conversation discussing the Poetry & Music Project, as part of which 10 poems by Nebraska K-12 poets were chosen to be set to music. Opera Omaha Director of Engagement Programs Lauren Medici sat down with composers Matt Browne and Frances Pollock of The American Opera Project and Colleen O’Doherty and Matt Mason of Nebraska Writers Collective to talk more about the project.

Virtual Prelude Talks have moved to Friday! This Friday evening, Michael Bolton of Opera Philadelphia presented an exploration of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. This production from The Met was streamed live in March 2009 and features Patricia Racette, Marcello Giordani, Maria Zifchak, and Dwayne Croft. Maestro Patrick Summers wielded the baton.
