Poetry & Music Writing Workshops

Opera Omaha and Nebraska Writers Collective offer free writing workshops as part of the Poetry & Music Project.

Facilitated by Nebraska Writers Collective Teaching Artists, workshops aim to teach participants how to add musicality to their writing. Instructors explain a variety of poetic devices such as meter, rhyme, metaphor, and personification and show how these devices are used in poetry, modern music, and opera classics.
The workshops add a layer of understanding for students who are interested in participating in the Poetry and Music Project.

Workshops are approximately 1 hour, but can be adjusted to fit a class period.
Workshops will be adapted to student grade level, but are recommended for students in 4th grade and higher.
Workshops are offered in-person for schools within a 40-minute driving radius of Omaha or Lincoln, or virtually for those outside that driving radius.
Workshops can be scheduled to occur between September 28-November 13, 2026.
