Opera Omaha joins Ireland’s Wexford Festival Opera for a striking new production of this dark chapter of Greek mythology by the renowned actor and director, Fiona Shaw. Medea is the powerful woman who enables Giasone of the Argonauts to steal the magical golden fleece. His subsequent betrayal triggers a horrifying act of revenge as Medea destroys everything – and everyone – that binds them.

Cast

Kara Shay Thomson, Medea

Soprano Kara Shay Thomson will return to Opera Omaha having appeared in the 2017 Opera Outdoors Concert and Bluebeard’s Castle. Recent engagements include being a soloist with Berkshire Choral International in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Agathe in Der Freischütz with Virginia Opera, the title role in Tosca with Intermountain Opera Bozeman and Utah Opera, Leonore in Fidelio with Sarasota Opera, and a New Year’s Eve concert with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Upcoming engagements include the title role in Tosca with Arizona Opera, Marta in Tiefland by Eugene d’Albert with Sarasota Opera, and the title role in Turandot and Magda Sorel in The Consul with Dayton Opera. Ms. Thomson’s concert engagements have included Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with National Chorale at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, and a soloist in Dvořák’s Te Deum and a recital with Cincinnati May Festival.
